Greek Community Within our Academic Community
The library is the not only the staple for the academic community at the University of Arizona, but also the staple for community diversity at Arizona. There is not a limit to the different communities you can find within the academic community at the main public library on campus. Here is a perfect example, snuggled in the corner of the third floor are a group of Pi Kapp's studying away. If you were to climb into this photo and walk around, you would find multiple groups of greek members, foreign exchange students, and all other members of Arizona's diverse campus.
Foreign Community Within Our Community
This picture depicts a group of foreign exchange students loitering in the Integrated Learning Center on the Arizona campus. Beyond this group, is the larger community, the academic student body of Arizona, but if you focus in on this group, it is the community within the community, the foreign exchange community within the academic community. It is this type of inner-community that brings the diversity Arizona is looking for.

Artist's Statement
When people think of the University of Arizona, they think about a community that only includes partying, and lacks any other community diversity. The goal of this photo blog is to change everyone’s idea about the diversity of the Arizona community. We want to show the current and future students of Arizona that there is more than just partying in our community, that there are academic communities, Greek communities, and so on within our larger Arizona community.
Though each and every student at the University of Arizona is unique and different in their own way, the community that we share is what we all have in common. Every day, thousand’s of people walk passed or utilize all of the photographed locations. These features of our campus are not only resources for us, but are a part of what makes us feel comfortable and at home.
Our goal in this project, was to make the existence of a community of students evident through a variety of images captured at common locations on Campus. These included locations such as University Avenue, Greek Row, the Student Union, the library, etc. We chose these locations because we believed they would each display an image of our diverse student community in different ways. Each photograph showed either the student population itself, or different aspects of campus we all thought contributed to the idea of our community of the U of A.
In terms of these photographs, our art form was photography using a camera as our medium and focusing on the theme of community. In a school as large as ours, it's an understatement that community would be a common concept throughout the student population. Though there are many specific communities in the University of Arizona, such as the Greek community, the Eller community, and all communities associated with specifics majors etc., we all exist within a much larger universal community that makes up the student population of the University of Arizona.

Student Union: For Every Student's Needs
The Student Union is made up of a few connecting buildings, all which offer a variety of resources for Arizona's students. It's a place where students can eat, study, visit the post office, buy textbooks, etc. The food court offers a variety of choices geared towards student's needs, all which are accessible by catcard. The bookstore offers textbooks and school supplies, as well as a Starbucks, clothing, or other personal items. There are many study rooms people can utilize in between classes, and many rooms in which meetings and tutoring sessions are held. The buildings that make up the Student Union offer many resources and benefits to accommodate the different needs of students in the University of Arizona community.

Zona Zoo: "Welcome to the Zoo"
Zona Zoo is the section of the stadium limited to students only, and usually seen as a sea of red on game days. In my opinion, it is the easiest place on campus to find school spirit and a sense of student community. I believe this image captured the concept of student community perfectly, as our section is entirely filled with students in red apparel- yet void of any fans of the other team in their own separate section. It was a big game, sold out entirely for our school, yet almost unattended by anyone supporting the other team which only showcases the strength of our student community even further.

Greek Row: A Diverse and Unique Community
On the north side of campus, stretching north from Mountain all the way to Campbell, lies Greek Row(1st Street). There isn't a second that goes by that there isn't something happening on this street. Whether it be a sorority or fraternity having lunch or dinner, or a walk for Lute Olson's annual charity, there is always students getting involved in other ways than clubs and sports. It is a place of exploration for college students looking to be a part of something new and different. Greek Row gives the student an opportunity to meet new people and create lifelong relationships. More importantly, all the houses on Greek Row participate in and create their own philanthropies that raise thousands of dollars year after year.

The University Mall: An all Day/Night Hotspot
The University of Arizona's main out door attraction is undoubtedly the mall. During the day one could find a student studying or eating on the mall, or maybe even a Tucsonan walking their dog. At night it is no different, students and locals can be found playing pick up football, soccer, and frisbee. The mall is located at the center of campus and if you go to school here, it is guaranteed you have some sort of interaction with the seemingly never ending beautiful strip of grass. Not only does the mall provide entertainment, it also provides a place for clubs and businesses to attract potential members. The mall really is the heart of the school and is a place where everyone can enjoy.

University Boulevard: Restaurants, Stores, and Spirit
University Boulevard is symbolic of a joint community- one that contains both UA students, and the citizens of Tucson. People of all ages do not only go there to eat and shop, but also go to show their spirit. This photograph was taken on Bear Down Friday, a pep rally that occurs before every home football game. It captures a moment when the students and citizens of this community all have something in common, as they join together to support the Wildcats.

Old Main: The Rise of The UA Community
Old Main was the first building constructed on the University of Arizona. It therefore represents the beginning of the UA community. What was once a lone, single building that contained all of the classrooms, offices, dorm rooms, and library, has now flourished into an entire campus. The original community that this building represents is still remembered, as Old Main is at a central location of the college that students pass by every day.
